A lot of thinks has happened in the past week, so I'll just start with our trip to Phu Quoc Island.
Last Friday we went on the nightbus to the city Rach Gia, so that we would be able to get the morning boat to Phu Quoc. It all seem like a really good plan, but little did we know! Nor at the busstation or in the bus did anybody speak English, and we soon realized that this was really the local bus since we were the only tourist on it! We tried to sleep on what we thought was going to be a 6 hours bus trip, but the drivers vietnamise music, and worse, driving made it very difficult! He drove so fast and dangerous that everytime you opened your eyes all you really wanted to do was close them again, and try to ignore how horrible his driving was (something I have done many times since!). We ended up getting to Rach Gia an hour before planned. So at 4 am in the morning we sat at a bus station in a city we had never been in, and where absolutely nobody spoke English! Not something I wish to experience again anytime soon! Reaaly creepy looking motortaxi drivers tried to get us to drive with them, but we refused thinking that we could get a taxi. After an 1 hour or so though, we realized that we couldn't, and the whole think ended with my friend Jose convincing one od the bus drivers to take us to the boat! After that evrything went fine until we got to the town we were staying in and realized that the only way we could get to our hotel was by getting on a motorbike..something we had all been avoiding since our arrival in Vietnam! To everybodies surprise it turned out to be a great trip, and we quickly decided that we had to try that again!
The hotel we were staying at turned out to be really nice right on the beach, with a nice pool and restaurant, but because it was out of season not that many guests were there. We spend the next 4 days relaxing on the beach, eating delicious food, and discovering the Island. There weren't that many tourist there so we really got to see how the vietnamese people live, which was really cool:-) And of course we went on the motorbikes again, which made me the lucky owner of a big burn on my leg, that I still have! Apperantly I'm not the only tourist who have done this, because I later fondt out that it is also known as an "Asian tattoo"!
The trip home was much nicer than the one there, and we arrived in Ho Chi Minh City late Tuesday evening. I spend Wedensday taking care of bus and plane tickets, and Thursday morning I left for Dalat. Jose and Cille has gone to Mui Ne beach, where they are enjoying the beach for a couple of days.

This reminded me of the adventure that I had in Italy a million years ago. I was in s small town, trying to get to my hostel for the night. NO ONE spoke English and my Jr. high Spanish (similar to Italian) was of no help at all. We got on the wrong bus and no one could understand us. A num took pity on us, read our book and told the bus driver where we were going! We were just on the north bus, instead of the south bus. It circled around and the driver signaled for us to get off! Just goes to show that we all need to speak a couple languages. I suppose, no one in your group spoke French either. That MIGHT have come in handy.
Good luck with the rest of your trip and I hope that someone speaks one of the languages you do!
Glad to hear you girls are traveling smart!!! Keep the stories of adventures coming. Many of us are following along and 'traveling' through you.
